The high rates of unemployment is a serious issue affecting millions of Palestinians. According to statistics the service sector is the highest employer of Palestinians at a rate of 33.2% in the West Bank and 53.8% in Gaza. Therefore, Palestinians with professional skills are the driving force behind the Palestinian economy and require further opportunities and outlets to achieve gainful employment.
Ramallah based Rana Nofal is actively working to create a platform that allows skilled laborers the opportunity to offer their services and enhance their professional profile as well as economic capabilities. In addition to the founder and Rana, Service on a Click features a team of two, including a manager overseeing the development of the businesses, as well as a designated web designer to improve efficiency and accessibility of the platform. As a result, Service on a Click will offer both skilled laborers to as well as potential customers the opportunity to connect and request services through an innovative platform. Rana explains, “We are working to not only offer but improve the job opportunities available for non-professional skilled laborers to have the opportunity to connect to the job market and showcase their services as well as products to interests clients.”
A distinctive feature which Service on a Click features is an innovative rating and review system which allows interested clients to identify and select skilled professionals that best appeals to their needs in terms of location, services offered and level of customer satisfaction.
Upon launch Service on a Click will feature 50 nonprofessionally skilled service providers and up to 100 clients. Currently Service on a Click is focusing on skilled laborers from the Nablus and Ramallah area, however within the next few years and with sufficient funding Rana aims to expand her team and work towards making Service on a Click available for all Palestinian cities.
Rana explains how she aims to target women cooperatives, and organizations to provide an outlet for women who have the skills but lack the opportunities to showcase their talents and services, she says, “Service on a Click will enhance the visibility of women providers to showcase their products and services to empower them economically.” She continues, “With Service on a Click I hope to change mentality of people to develop their skills and utilize their specialized skill set to realize that their contributions are valued in their communities.”
